After watching "Remember the Titans", I am once again moved to tears. Although realizing that Disney took liberties in its making of the movie, I still feel that it depicted a time in history that was felt by many including myself. As a young Native American girl during the 70's I can remember still the racism that was present everywhere I went. Even at a football game in 1971 in which my brother was the starting quarterback for a large high school here in Oklahoma that was predominately white. As children of full-blood Native American parents, we were taught to "be a part" of the world and be "proud" of who we were and where we came from. I believe that has been the greatest legacy that our parents gave us. "Remember the Titans" brings back fond memories and sheds a glowing light on reality. It will be forever a favorite in my DVD collection. One that I hope to share with my grandchildren someday.

It was a terrible tragedy that on top of already having dealt with being paralyzed, Gerry had to be killed by a drunk driver. Sometimes people with the best attitudes still have the worst luck for whatever reasons I'll never understand. A good friend of mine who was always very generous and loving to everyone, was bodysurfing at Virginia Beach and a wave shoved him hard into the shore where he was instantly completely paralyzed. Every day is a struggle for him even though he is fortunate to have a loving and supportive family. Whenever I am thinking I am having bad luck or a bad day, I think of Gerry and my friend and realize how lucky I really am and that my worst day is still okay by comparison. Their lives and stories are inspirational. For my friend just getting through the day is a triumph and he isn't even aware of how he inspires others. Lyn

In my opinion "Remember the Titans" will go down in history as the best inspirational, feel good movie of all times. All though fictionalized I'm sure the general atmosphere was depicted. Gerry was obviously a remarkable person. And since this website is observed so often, many feel the same. My purpose for posting is to offer not only admiration for your efforts but to hopefully give some positive thoughts about what has happened to this outstanding young man. Please feel free to contact.

Reading about Gerry was a true inspiration. I played Division one sports 4 years in college and reading about him helps me realize just how fortunate I was. Any athlete or person would admire how he kept plugging away and helping others. A great man he was. Admin reply: In hard times and tribulations, I have definetly learned where Gerry got his determination. Ms. Bertier eminates the same qualities and traits. Thank you for your post. My son's best friend became a quadrepalegic at the age of thirteen two years ago in a skiing accident. For two years I have orgnized a fundraising hockey event titled "IronCam" raising $90,000. $55,000 in year one and $35,000 this past March. (Google IronCam to research it, for it was HUGE) A frind of mine, Tim Morris was on the Titans with Gerry and we were talking last night about a spinal cord injury research foundation that I could partner with and donate the money, should I host the event again next year. Obviously he mentioned The Gerry Bertier #42 Foundation, which is why I am writing. Please e-mail me and if this is of interest to you we could talk further. Thanks Scott Hecht Admin reply: I have sent Mr. Hecht a response email - and look forward to hearing from him. Regards, Becky (Gerry's sister)

The movie "Remember the Titans" was an increditable movie It is truly sad to know people will not vote for a president besause he is black. They all need to watch the movie and see what a bunch of high school kids did to overcome racism. If they did it why can't we???
