I also knew Gary; I did not know Gary who lived in a wheelchair - I only knew Gary as the guy who loved my best friend (and she loved him),the guy who loved to play basketball, the guy who never was bummed out, the guy who could do whatever he made his mind up to do. Strong, happy and always smiling. He was and is an inspiration.!

I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and Gerry has touched so many lives because of what happened to him. He is truly an inspiration for us all. The way he lived in health and in the face of tragedy. God bless him and the legacy that he leaves, continuing to help people even after he has left this world.

To Gerry's sister Becky and family,
I am a former girlfriend of Gerry's from way back -- we met when I first moved to DC from Ohio back in 1977 and we dated for a couple of years when Gerry lived at Tower 2000 in Alexandria, VA. When I say "dated", it was way more than just casual dating and in fact Gerry proposed to me at one point. We loved each other very much but we were so young and our life paths took different directions. Becky, I remember meeting you and your mom and dad on several occasions, and actually came to the house when they lived in Woodbridge, VA. You were just a little girl. Like many, Gerry changed my whole life and I know I am a much better person, and would have a totally different outlook on life, had it not been for knowing him. He will live in my heart and mind always, and I look forward to seeing my friend again when I get to heaven. Connie Bennett, a/k/a "Bubbles" (Gerry's nickname for me).

Admin reply: Are you a redhead?

I want to thank The Gerry Bertier foundation for their support of VCU Medical Hospital .My son Matthew was in a car accident in 2009 that left him a parapalegic but with the generous funding from this organization and VCU wonderful staff my son was able to come home in 2 months. I pray they will always keep the funding and research going to help these patients be given the chance to walk and live life to the fullest again . God Bless!

I attended TC Willimas and "experienced" Remember The Titans....I attended the championship game. All of us were inspired by Gerry and sad that he and his family endured such pain. Thank heavans something wonderful has emerged from something so tragic.

Our class just saw "Remember the Titans" for the 2nd time this year after completing day 3 of our state testing (first time was the day before Thanksgiving break- our team's tradition).

We are sorry for Gerry's untimely death and your loss. He certainly is an inspiration to us all!

Warmest regards,
Adele
